Waltz Album (Homage to Francisco Tarrega) by Mark Houghton
The waltzes 'in the European style' which make up this album were written at the end of January 2002 as a homage to the Spanish guitarist Francisco Tarrega on the 150th anniversary of his birth in 2002.
Of these waltzes the composer writes "Recalling my own fond memories of first playing Tarrega's waltzes for solo guitar, I have tried with my waltzes to capture some of the spirit of the most popular dance form to sweep through Europe during the 19th Century."
These superbly written pieces will surely soon begin to appear on the concert platform and recordings.
"These pieces are substantial and enjoyable to play. Recommended". - Classical Guitar Magazine
